Tech Note 1: Part History
Ford used a Dana 50 Independent Front Suspension (IFS) Twin Traction Beam front axle from 1980 through 1997 on some F250 and F350 4x4s. A Dana 50 Monobeam solid axle was introduced along with the 1999 F250 and F350 Super Duty Single Rear Wheel (SRW) trucks. This axle would continue to be used on many SRW Super Duty trucks until 2002 when it was phased out and replaced by a Dana 60. The Dana 50 monobeam application was also the only axle offered for the 2000-2005 4x4 Ford Excursion. Both the Dana 50 IFS and Dana 50 monobeam axles use the same gear set and differentials
